Papers consist of an autograph volume, 1852-1878, chiefly of Woodward's fellow students at South Carolina College, many of whom like Woodward, faced expulsion following the student uprising of Dec. 1852 known as the "Biscuit Rebellion." Two reprinted sheets [ca. 1879] re Democratic party politics, elections, U.S. Representative John Hamilton Evins and his supporters, including journalist Col. [Thomas Stobo] Farrow titled, "A Congressman Hat-ched: new patent process as orginated and practiced by the friends of Colonel Evins in 1876," illustrated with a cut of a man tipping his top hat while sitting on brim of oversized top hat; and "The Canvass for Congress: a communication from Maror Thomas W. Woodward, of Fairfield. Letter to the Winnsboro News and Herald,"; both essays published under the masthead, "The Fourth District." Printed poem, 1896, "Maj. Woodward's Valentine," re Woodward's fight against followers of Ben Tillman, describing a dream in which Woodward bemoans the loss of Lyles and heralds the fight by Johnson, Weir, and Mitchell, "Who turned away the caucus / And from Tillmanism too." Letter, 1902, from Walter Hazard, a lawyer in Georgetown, S.C., re their past association, "I often look back with pleasure upon the days when we were thrown into political association with each other, and remember the fearlessness and courage with which you upheld your convictions."
